Three men employed by the company that provides rope jumping services have been taken into custody and could be charged with murder.

On Saturday, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas participated in rope jumping at Ponte do Esqueleto, a disused bridge in the Limeira municipality where thrill-seekers engage in extreme sports.

The young woman, who dreamed of becoming a physical education instructor, requested to be launched from the bridge in an aeroplane style, with two instructors lifting her above their shoulders while she extended her arms.

Video footage shared online depicts two men wearing white helmets hurling Freitas into a 40-metre (130-foot) drop without securing her to any safety gear, while a bystander yells at the instructors to fasten her to a rope. The instructors are wearing harnesses that seem to be connected to a safety line.

Just before the incident, de Freitas posted a photo of the location on Instagram with the caption: β€œWho was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge???”

Earlier videos of the extreme activity at the bridge, conducted by the Entre Cordas company, show participants with a thick safety cord wrapped around their waists as they are propelled off.
