A San Francisco judge determined that xAI did not provide sufficient evidence to prove that OpenAI had encouraged former xAI engineer Xuechen Li to misappropriate trade secrets.
On Monday, a federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI, which alleged that rival Sam Altman’s OpenAI had misappropriated trade secrets related to chatbots.
The judge had previously dismissed an earlier version of the lawsuit in February.
The initial complaint, submitted in September, centered on broader claims of unauthorized use of confidential information, such as source code, by xAI employees who moved to positions at OpenAI.
On May 18, a federal jury ruled against the world’s wealthiest individual in his US$150 billion case, which accused OpenAI and Altman of “stealing a charity” by deviating from the company’s original charitable mission to enrich themselves.
